Pierrick Fédrigo (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) had a big smile on his face at the end of this afternoon in Porto-Vecchio after having won the Critérium International 2010, the three stages race in Corsica.
The second stage was won this morning by Russell Downing (Team Sky) in a bunch sprint at only a few millimeters from Michael Albasini (HTC-Columbia) and Pierrick Fédrigo.

This morning 116 riders came to the start of the second stage of the Critérium International 2010, close to the harbour of Porto-Vecchio. The sky was slightly cloudy but the Corsican spectators created a very good atmosphere.

This morning in the harbour of Porto-Vecchio, the 17 teams who participate in the Critérium International 2010 have been presented to the Corsican public. Many people came to the start to show their interest in this new start for the famous cycling race in 3 stages.
128 riders came to the start of this 175.5 km long stage which was won on top of the Col de l'Ospedale by Pierrick Fédrigo of the Bbox Bouygues Telecom team.
The summary of the stage
The riders left under a bleu sky to discover the South of Corsica. The Dutch rider Ricardo van der Velde didn't come to the start.
Right from kilometer 9, Albert Timmer (Skil-Shimano) and Cédric Pineau (Roubaix-Lille Métropole) formed a leading duo and quickly created a gap of up to 9'40" with the peloton. At kilometer 40 the BMC and Astana teams decide to reduce the gap and at the first sprint it was down to 7'20".
On the mountaineous route in Corsica, the riders who will probably be among the best performers are the recent winner of Paris-Nice 2010, Alberto Contador (Astana), the World Champion Cadel Evans (BMC Racing Team) and the seven time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong (Team Radioshack). The rumours about a possible Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2013 from Corsica are getting louder and louder and today's announcement about the move of the Critérium International to Corsica can only amplify them.

Today A.S.O. (the organisor of the Tour de France and many other cycling races) announced in a simple press release that the Critérium International - after 9 years in Charleville Mézières and in the Ardennes - moves to Corsica and more precisely to Porto Vecchio in 2010.

The Criterium International took place around Charleville-Mézières in the Ardennes this weekend. Three stages in two days as usual formed a very complete race: one flat stage on Saturday, a medium mountain stage on Sunday morning and a time trial on Sunday afternoon.
Winner of the Critérium International in 2008 and the year before, the German rider Jens Voigt of the Team Saxo Bank wins this race for the fifth time: 1999, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009!
He also wins the green jersey and the polka dot jersey for best climber and his team Team Saxo Bank was the best team. The white jersey for best young rider goes to the French rider Jérôme Coppel of Française des Jeux. ...

The Dutch rider Laurens ten Dam of the Rabobank team won the first stage and the green jersey. The polka dot jersey for the best climber went to the Australian Simon Gerrans of Crédit Agricole while the Spaniard Luis Leon Sanchez of Caisse d'Epargne confirmed his good shape by winning the white jersey as the best young rider, followed by Maxime Monfort and Robert Gesink.
