The route and stage cities of Paris-Nice 2010While the rumours were floating around since a few weeks now, A.S.O. today officially announced the cities which will receive the 68th edition of Paris-Nice in 2010.
In March 2009 I already announced that Paris-Nice 2010 would start from the Yvelines department, today we had the confirmation that the start will be in Montfort-l'Amaury, not far from the Vallée de Chevreuse.

This article will allow you to discover all details of the Paris-Nice 2010 route! This edition of Paris-Nice will take place from 7 till 14 March 2010.

    > Full details, stage profiles, route- and time schedules and maps in Google Maps/Google Earth for Paris-Nice 2010 can be found here

    A summary of the Paris-Nice 2010 route

In 2010 Montfort-l'Amaury will be the first of at least 4 Paris-Nice starts in the Yvelines. Indeed, the agreement between A.S.O. and the Conseil Général des Yvelines creates the framework for a collaboration during 4 years.
After the start, the riders will go south on the west side of the Massif Central while crossing the Beauce region via Contres and Limoges before going into the Massif Central via Aurillac and Mende. After a short transfer the riders will connect Pernes-les-Fontaines to Aix-en-Provence before a stage which will finish in Tourrettes-sur-Loup and which contains several nice climbs, and finally the last classic stage from Nice to Nice.

The stage start and finish cities for Paris-Nice 2010

    Sunday 7 March 2010 - prologue - Montfort-l'Amaury > Montfort-l'Amaury - 8 km

As usual, Paris-Nice starts with a prologue (a short individual time trial), this time it will be a 8 kilometer stage around Montfort-l'Amaury.

    Monday 8 March 2010 - 1st stage - Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines > Contres - 201,5 km

The first stage will also start in the Yvelines, in Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines where Paris-Tours started until 2008.
This stage will finish 201,5 kilometers further in a city which has never received Paris-Nice before: Contres (Loir-et-Cher).

    Tuesday 9 March 2010 - 2nd stage - Contres > Limoges - 203,5 km

The start of the second stage will also be in Contres, for a 203,5 kilometer stage towards Limoges.
This finish in Limoges had already been announced by the city's mayor, Alain Rodet, after the finish of the last stage of the Tour du Limousin 2009. The stage will most probably finish on the Boulevard de Beaublanc where the sprinters can dispute the stage win most probably at the exact same location as where the last stage of the Tour du Limousin finished.

    Wednesday 10 March 2010 - 3rd stage - Saint-Junien > Aurillac - 208 km

The start of the 3rd stage will also be in a city which has received the Tour du Limousin 2009: Saint-Junien organised the stage finish of the 3rd stage of that Tour in August 2009 and for Paris-Nice it's a city which receives the Race to the Sun for the very first time.
This stage will finish in Aurillac in the Auvergne, which has never received Paris-Nice either.

    Thursday 11 March 2010 - 4th stage - Maurs > Mende - 172 km

The stage on Thursday will connect Maurs to the city of Mende - which will also organise a stage finish of the Tour de France 2010 - and will include the climb of La Croix-Neuve Montée Laurent Jalabert.

Below you can see the profile of this stage.

    Friday 12 March 2010 - 5th stage - Pernes-les-Fontaines > Aix-en-Provence - 153,5 km

The shortest stage of this 68th edition of Paris-Nice will connect yet another city which has never received Paris-Nice before, Pernes-les-Fontaines in the Vaucluse - at the foot of the Mont Ventoux and known for its fountains, to the city of Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône). This finish city had never received Paris-Nice since it's last visit in 1964!Tourrettes-sur-Loup

    Saturday 13 March 2010 - 6th stage - Peynier > Tourrettes-sur-Loup - 220 km

The forelast stage of Paris-Nice 2010 connects two other cities which have never received the spring race before: Peynier in the Bouches-du-Rhône and Tourrettes-sur-Loup (photo © Thomas Vergouwen ; Alpes-Maritimes).

During this stage the riders will have to climb the Col de Vence.

    Sunday 14 March 2010 - 7th stage - Nice > Nice - 119 km

As usual, the last stage will both start and finish in Nice.
This stage will most probably follow the exact same classical route as usual for this last stage and it will thus visit the climbs of La Turbie and of the Col d'Eze before the finish on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
