A miniature version of the Tour de France: organised by the Dauphiné Libéré newspaper, takes place in June and is often being used as a preparation on the Tour de France
After the prologue won by Alberto Contador (Astana) yesterday, today's stage from Evian-les-Bains to Saint-Laurent-du-Pont was destined for the sprinters. In the last climb before the finish, the leading group was taken back and a final attempt by Janez Brajkovic (Team Radioshack) and Eros Capecchi (Footon-Servetto) in the descent was destined to fail because the sprinters teams were preparing a bunch sprint.
The Slovenian rider Grega Bole (Lampre-Farnese Vini) wins it ahead of the Slovakian Peter Velits (HTC-Columbia) and the British Geraint Thomas (Team Sky). Alberto Contador finishes 34th in the same group and thus keeps the yellow jersey.

At the end of the afternoon (because of the final of Roland-Garros!), the prologue of the 62th Critérium du Dauphiné took place over 6.8 kilometers in the streets of Evian-les-Bains. Alberto Contador (Astana) is the big favourite for this stage race (even though he tries to explain that he's not the only candidate) and he showed his superiority right from the prologue. Surprise or not surprise?

In January, I announced the news about the organisation of the Dauphiné Libéré by Amaury Sport Organisation from 2010. At that time only the first rumours about the race's route were known and even though I didn't find the time to find further rumours many of you came to read this article.

The Spanish newspaper El País announced it early this week already and today Le Dauphiné Libéré confirms it: A.S.O. has been asked to organise the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré 2010 and will most probably buy the race in June after 2010.

Miniature Tour de France you might think? Yes indeed, because with its almost 1093 kilometres the riders will do about one third of the distance of the Tour de France during this stage race and the number of stages has also been divided by three to come to 7 stages in addition to the prologue. However, in terms of difficulties this stage ra ...
